Mike Vick Racial Hysteria

I wasn't interested in writing about Vick. I've ranted about it on minusthebars (and I'm essentially going to say the same thing, so if you've already heard this . . .) I don't like to hop on the trending bandwagon all the time, but after Tucker Carlon's latest desparate cry for attention I am compelled to respond.

WTF are you smokin' man?!? WE EAT ANIMALS! Unless you're a vegan, you should probably save your outrage about Vick. Have you ever seen what they do to cows in this country? Should hunters be executed too? People are acting like Vick is Joe Goebells or something because he brutalized dogs. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Vick was right. I'm just saying save the outrage. He broke the law, but how can you seriously say his behavior was inhumane given the mores of our culture on eating, hunting, and racing animals?

Not only that but people that seem to be so upset about those poor dogs don't have much to say about human beings being harmed. Yeah dogfighting is a problem, but what about human fighting?!? You know humans fight too, right? Sometimes to the death. What about human trafficking? What about homelessness? What about poverty? What about torture? Where's the outrage about mistreatment of human beings?

The man did his time. He broke the law. He was prosecuted. And he paid for his crime. He lost millions of dollars in advertising revenue. He was embarrassed. And he sat in jail for over a year. And that's not enough for the Tucker Carlsons of the world. He paid his debt to society, but it's still not enough for people that have all the sympathy and understanding imaginable . . . for dogs . . . not people . . . dogs.

To me, the issues around this over-animosity towards Vick and many other black men in the media has much to do with race. Not in an "I hate Black people" sort of way, but more in a "they're not like me, they're more savage than me, they should be punished more harshly than me" sort of way. And this disconnect spins peoples' feelings into absurdity like Carlsons. I had one chick in my old office sending around emails saying that Vick's dogfighting was different than hunting because her husband hunts and hunters are humane and Vick was probably about drugs! I could picture her clutching her pearls as she typed the words. Yeah lady, the fact the your husband is a hunter isn't exactly a persuasive argument; and what drugs were involved? Somehow in her mind drugs, crime, and black people all fit into a neat little narrative. This is racial hysteria. Sphere: Related Content

i've said the same thing! it's offensive to me when i see/hear ppl get totally worked about about dogs/animals being in shitty situations, but fail to acknowledge that people are in similar, if not worse, situations. it's shocking to see what the "popular culture's" priorities are when it comes to P.O.C. vs. animals.
